Specification
Before you specify it
The answers a specifier, facilities manager or main contractor needs before our blinds go anywhere near your building.
- Fabric and fire
- Yewdale contract fabrics certified to BS 5867 Part 2 Type B, with the certificate for the specified fabric supplied on every commercial order. A Type C certified fabric is available where the specification calls for it.
- Child safety
- Devices to BS EN 13120 are fitted and adjusted on every unit, with chains and cords secured at the correct height. Mandatory in schools, nurseries and care settings.
- Fixings and substrate
- Self-drilling fixings into aluminium frames. Rated cavity anchors in plasterboard, or hardened screws where a stud is confirmed. Masonry drilling uses on-tool HEPA extraction and face fit tested P3 masks.
- Working at height
- EN 131 professional access equipment, inspected and tagged before use. Two fitters, one working and one at ground level watching the area below. IPAF and PASMA carded for powered access and towers.
- Occupied buildings
- We ask to see the asbestos register at induction before anyone drills, and we stop and check rather than guess on any material the register does not cover.
- Getting it done
- Seven to ten days from survey to fitting, and we work around your hours. Project specific RAMS come to you before we start.
Ask for the certificate on the fabric you are specifying and it comes with the quote. Download our generic example RAMS , or see the full insurance, accreditations and RAMS page for your PQQ.
How a project moves
From enquiry to sign-off
Start with what you know. The brief can be refined as drawings, access and programme become clearer.
- 01
Enquiry
Tell us the sector, site count, rough window count and any deadline.
- 02
Survey and schedule
We review the brief, drawings and access requirements, then agree what needs measuring.
- 03
Project documents and programme
Scope, products, programme and any requested project information are agreed before fitting.
- 04
Fit and sign-off
Installation is completed against the agreed schedule, with any snags recorded at sign-off.
Lifecycle and planned replacement
Programmed replacement across an estate
Blinds reach end of life across a whole building, not one window at a time. If you are budgeting a lifecycle or planned maintenance programme, we work the way your programme does.
-
Priced by phase, not by guess
Survey the full estate, then price it in the phases your budget releases. Each phase stands on its own purchase order.
-
Installed in the window you have
Summer and half-term holidays for schools, out of hours and weekends for occupied workplaces. We plan around the building being in use, not the other way round.
-
Working under a main contractor
We work to your induction and site rules, attend pre-start meetings, and supply RAMS before anyone is on site. Two operatives at height, one as ground level observer.
-
Consistent across every phase
The same fabric, the same system and the same control type in year three as in year one, so a replaced floor matches the one above it.
Recent lifecycle work includes school and academy estates across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside, instructed by a Tier 1 facilities management contractor and delivered inside a two to three day holiday window.
See the lifecycle replacement programme Price a lifecycle programmeContract curtains and subcontract fitting
One supplier for blinds and curtains, working under your programme.
BBS supplies and fits contract curtains alongside blinds, so a fit out does not need two window dressing subcontractors. At Cale Cross that was curtains and roller blinds to around 241 apartments over 17 floors for Oak Construction, plus the cinema room and private dining.
We work as a subcontractor to main contractors, fit out firms and FM providers: RAMS per site, inductions and pre-start meetings attended, a PO reference carried through to invoice, and fitting sequenced to your handover dates. For the right job we travel: Cale Cross in Newcastle, Keady's head office in Kent and Skinner Street in Leeds were all BBS installations. See the facilities management page for how reactive and planned work runs across an estate.
