The brief
What the site needed.
Stockport School had one job with two very different halves. Ten refurbished classrooms and the science labs needed simple, everyday control on tall period-style windows. The sports hall needed something else entirely: glare knocked off the court from glazing sitting high in the roof steelwork.
BBS supplied and fitted roller blinds throughout, using a single burgundy fabric so every room reads the same and the finish ties in with the school colours. The classrooms and labs are crank operated, which is the control a teacher can use without thinking about it. The sports hall took fourteen large format motorised blackout blinds, fitted high into the steelwork where nobody is going to reach a chain.
Where a classroom wall carries several windows in a run, the blinds were set to a matching drop, so light control across the wall is even rather than stepped.
The work went through room by room while the building was empty for the summer holidays, from the ground floor classrooms right up into the sports hall, with snagging and final adjustment inside the three-day programme. Supplied, fitted and delivered on time by BBS’s own fully employed installation team, all Enhanced DBS.

- 04
Fine tune
The programme included snagging and final adjustment of the completed systems.
The result
What changed for the space.
