Dust the fabric
A soft brush or the upholstery attachment on low suction keeps blackout fabric clean without marking the coating.

Wipe side channels and cassettes occasionally so the blind runs smoothly and seals at the edges.

Questions about blackout blinds

Will a blackout blind make the room completely dark?
The fabric itself blocks the light. A standard roller still lets a thin line in round the edges, so for a completely dark room we fit a cassette with side channels, an in-frame system, or a Blind Screen.
What is a Blind Screen?
A slimline system fitted into the window that combines a full blackout blind and an insect screen, so you can have the room dark or the window open without flies. A thermal honeycomb version helps keep the heat in. BBS supplies and fits them.
Which Blind Screen do I need?
The 01 has a 20mm frame for windows. The 02 has a 25mm frame and covers openings up to 6 metres, so it suits patio, sliding and bifold doors. The 02 DT runs the blackout screen and the fly screen on two tracks, so both stack to one side and you keep the door handle clear. The 03 has a low, walk-on threshold with panels that tuck away, which is the one for doors children run through. We confirm the right one at the survey.
Is a Blind Screen completely blackout?
With blackout fabric, yes, and Sella Trim, a flexible seal that follows the recess, closes the last gaps round the frame. On some dual net and blind sizes Blind Screen notes a little light can bleed past the net, so we tell you at the survey if your opening is one of them.
What is the difference between blackout and dim-out?
Dim-out fabric cuts most of the light and suits living rooms and offices. Blackout fabric is fully opaque and is the one for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.
Can I have blackout with a Roman blind or curtains?
Yes. Both can take a blackout lining. For a fully dark bedroom many people layer a blackout roller behind them, so the Roman or curtains are chosen for how they look.
Do blackout blinds help keep a room warm?
A blind close to the glass traps a layer of air, and thermal honeycomb blackout fabrics are made for exactly that. We can show you the thermal options at the home visit.
Do you fit blackout blinds for hotels, schools and care homes?
Yes. We fit blackout for hotel bedrooms, school AV and science rooms and care home bedrooms, and the fire certificate for the specified fabric comes with every commercial order.
