The brief

What the site needed.

XCellR8 needed to reduce direct solar glare across laboratory and office work areas without making the spaces unnecessarily dark.

BBS supplied screen-fabric roller blinds, using the openness of the material to filter the sun while retaining natural light and a view through the glazing.

What we did

A specification shaped around the setting.

  1. 01

    Fabric

Screen fabric selected to filter direct solar glare.

  2. 02

    Window treatment

Made-to-measure roller systems for laboratory and office windows.

  3. 03

    Daylight

The specification aimed to retain natural light while improving comfort.

Working on site

Planned around the building, not just the windows.

  1. 01

    Assess light

The effect of direct sun across work areas informed the blind choice.

  2. 02

    Prepare

Screen roller blinds were made for the measured openings.

  3. 03

    Install

The systems were fitted across both laboratory and office spaces.

The result

What changed for the space.

Staff gained better control of direct glare while the screen fabric allowed the rooms to keep a useful level of natural daylight.

  • Reduced direct solar glare
  • Natural light retained
  • One treatment across labs and offices
