The brief
What the site needed.
Two office floors in a Canary Wharf tower, with curtain walling all the way round. BBS fitted screen fabric roller blinds to the entire perimeter of both floors, about 200 blinds in all.
Screen fabric was the right answer for floors like these. The glazing runs floor to ceiling on every side, so glare on the desks is a problem on whichever elevation the sun is on. A screen takes the glare off while the view across the Wharf stays visible through the weave, which is the point of an office this high up. Where the curtain wall turns a curved corner, each faceted pane has its own blind, so the fabric follows the building.
The job was part of a full site fit-out. Furniture was going in, the flooring contractor was laying floors and the cleaners were working through, all on the same floors at the same time. The blinds were fitted around them, into a floor still under protection, without holding up anyone else’s programme.

What we did
A specification shaped around the setting.

Screen fabric
Every pane on the perimeter takes a screen fabric roller, so glare comes off the desks while the view across the Wharf stays visible through the weave.

One blind per pane
Each roller is made to its own glazing panel, including the faceted panes where the curtain wall turns a curved corner, so the blinds follow the building rather than bridging it.

Door panels
The glazed doors out to the roof terrace are covered in the same line as the fixed panes either side.

Measure the whole perimeter
Both floors were surveyed pane by pane around the full curtain wall before manufacture.

Fit around the other trades
This was a full site fit-out. Furniture installers, the flooring contractor and the cleaners were all working the same floors, so the blinds went in around them.
- 03
Leave it finished
Blinds were fitted into a floor still under floor protection, and handed over working alongside the rest of the fit-out.
The result
What changed for the space.
Two office floors at Canary Wharf now have screen fabric on every pane of the perimeter, cutting glare at the desks while the view out over the Wharf stays, all fitted without holding up the rest of the fit-out.
